MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University's women's basketball team fell in exhibition action to the Turkish National Team, 70-66, Sunday afternoon at the WVU Coliseum.
Turkey shot a blistering 54 percent (27-50) from the field to WVU's 42 percent (25-58). The visitors also shot 53.8 percent from three point range.
WVU led by as many as nine numerous times early in the first half after starting the contest on an 11-2 run four minutes into the contest. The Turkish National Team stormed back, however, outscoring the Mountaineers 38-24 to take a five point halftime lead, 50-35. Yasemin Horasan's jumper with 2:33 left in the first gave Turkey the lead it would not relinquish the rest of the way.
Four members of the Turkish National Team scored in double-digits, led by Didem Sarica's 18 points on 6-7 shooting, including a perfect 4-4 from three-point range.
Senior Kate Bulger led the Mountaineers with 11 points on 4-10 shooting, including 2-6 from three point range. Seniors Michelle Carter and Sherell Sowho and junior Yolanda Paige each scored 10 points for WVU. Carter just missed a double-double, grabbing nine rebounds.
