Today's attendance was 67,715, the fifth largest in Mountaineer Field history.
West Virginia game captains were Grant Wiley, Quincy Wilson, Todd James and Ed Velickoff. Coach Rich Rodriguez selects game captains each week. Team captains will be elected at the end of the season.
Pat Liebig made his first career start for the Mountaineers against Pitt. WVU now has a total of 38 players with at least one game of starting experience. Tops on that list are Grant Wiley (41), Lance Frazier (34) and Brian King (32).
Miquelle Henderson's 18-yard touchdown reception from Rasheed Marshall was Henderson's second touchdown of the season and fifth of his career. His other touchdown catch was against East Carolina, the second game of the season.
Rayshawn Bolden's pass reception in the first quarter was his first catch of his career. A total of 13 Mountaineers have caught at least one pass this season.
Quincy Wilson went over 100 yards rushing for the fifth time this season and ninth time in his career. With nine career 100-yard plus rushing games, Wilson moves into a tie for eighth place in career 100-yard rushing games at WVU. He has rushed for 100 yards or more in four of WVU's last five games.
Wilson's four touchdown runs now give him 12 for the season and 20 for his career. His 20 career rushing touchdowns places him in a tie for sixth in career rushing touchdowns at WVU.
Wilson's four touchdowns were a career-best and tied a Mountaineer Field record for the most rushing touchdowns in a game at the facility. Avon Cobourne had four touchdown rushes against Rutgers in 2001. Wilson's 24 individual points also tie a Mountaineer Field record with Cobourne.
Wilson's 208 rushing yards tie for the eighth-best single game rushing performance in Mountaineer history. He ties Edward Williams who rushed for 208 yards on 35 carries against South Carolina in 1969.
Wilson's 12 rushing touchdowns this season tie him for seventh all-time all-time in single season rushing touchdowns with Jim Braxton (12 in 1969).
Pitt's 24 points in the first half are the most by an opponent this season since Maryland scored 20 and held a 20-0 lead at halftime.
John Pennington's 28-yard touchdown catch was his first touchdown of the season and second of his career. That catch was only his fifth of the season and sixth of his career. He is the seventh different Mountaineer to catch a pass for a touchdown this season.
West Virginia's 330 total yards in the first half against Pitt were more than the Mountaineers had for a total in three games this season. WVU had 300 total yards against Wisconsin, 243 total yards against Cincinnati and 156 total yards at Maryland.
WVU's 24 points in the first half were more than the total scored by the Mountaineers against Wisconsin (17), Cincinnati (13), Maryland 7) and Miami (20).
Grant Wiley's interception in the third quarter was his second of the season and eighth in his career.
Lawrence Audena's interception in the third quarter was his first of the season and second of his career. He becomes the eighth different Mountaineer to pick off a pass this season.
Rasheed Marshall's 216 yards passing is a new season high. His previous season best was 200 yards against Miami earlier this season.
Marshall's 12-yard touchdown run in the third quarter was his 19th career rushing touchdown, moving him into a tie for eighth place in career rushing touchdowns at WVU.
Lance Frazier's 72-yard punt return was the longest of his career. His previous longest return was a 30 yard return last season.
Miquelle Henderson's five receptions were a season-best.
Lance Frazier's 28-yard interception return in the fourth quarter was his fourth of the season and seventh of his career.
Kevin McLee's fourth quarter sack was his third of the season.
West Virginia's defense held the Panthers to 10 rushing yards on the evening. It marked the fourth time this season the Mountaineer defense held an opponent to under 100 yards rushing (UCF - 44; Virginia Tech - 65; Miami - 88).
West Virginia gave up 419 passing yards to the Panthers. The last time a Mountaineer opponent passed for over 400 yards against the Mountaineer defense was Miami (422) last season.
West Virginia's 52 points were the most by a Mountaineer offense since a 56-7 victory over Tennessee-Chattanooga in the season-opener last year.
West Virginia has now won 21 games in a row when scoring at least 30 or more points in a game. Dating back to 1980, the Mountaineers hold a 100-6-1 all-time record when scoring 30 or more in a game.
West Virginia is now 10-2 against teams from the BIG EAST in the last two seasons.
West Virginia's five-game winning streak is the most by the Mountaineers since WVU opened the 1996 season with seven consecutive victories.
