Women's Tennis: Two Teams Advance

The West Virginia University women's tennis team advanced two teams in the first round of the ITA Regional Championships on Friday, Oct. 24, at the Burrows/Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va.
Sophomore Melissa Day defeated Rhode Island's Erin Fleming (6-0, 6-1) in first round singles action. The Ballarat, Australia, native will play Kim Barfuss of Seton Hall in Saturday's second round at approximately 10:30 a.m.
The duo of Ashley Lynn Constantine and Catherine Koontz fell in a first round doubles decision to Boomershine and Fuchs of William and Mary (8-1).
In other doubles action, Day and Jennifer Watkins defeated James Madison's Vanderelst and Veith (8-4) to advance to round two where they will meet the winner of a late night match between Yale and William and Mary.
"I'm really happy with the way our girls played today. They played with a great deal of confidence in a tough tournament," coach Dan Silverstein said. "This tournament showcases some of the best talent on the east coast and our girls competed extremely well. We are looking to keep the momentum going on Saturday."
