MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University men's soccer team (4-8-3) finishes the road part of their BIG EAST schedule when they face Rutgers on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m.
WVU is coming off an emotional 3-3 tie against rival Pitt. After finding themselves trailing 3-1 with 20 minutes remaining the tandem of Devon McTavish and Jarrod Smith each scored to bring the match to 3-3.
The Mountaineers will be without the service of senior midfielder Mehran Mostafavifar for the rest of the season as he suffered a head injury against the Panthers.
The Scarlet Knights (7-4-3) enter the match tied with Virginia Tech for second in the BIG EAST. After defeating Notre Dame 5-2 on October 11, the team has sputtered, tying Boston College and Syracuse and then losing to Villanova in their last match, 2-0 at home.
Rutgers currently tops the conference in goals per game with 2.23. Much of their offensive success can be linked to senior midfielder Josh Gros who leads the BIG EAST in several offensive categories. The Mechanicsburg, Pa., native owns the lead in points (27), points per game (2.08), goals (11) and goals per game (.85). Junior forward Chris Karcz will also keep the Mountaineer defense busy as he is averaging four shots per game.
WVU returns home on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 6 p.m. when they host St. John's.
