Women's Cross Country: WVU Places Ninth

The West Virginia University women’s cross country team finished ninth in the 33-team gold division at Pre Nationals on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Irv Warren Memorial Golf Course in Waterloo, Iowa.
The 27th ranked Mountaineers placed five of their seven runners in the top 100 of a field that included 222 competitors. Leading the way for WVU was junior All-American Megan Metcalfe who finished the 6,000m race in fourth place with a time of 20:10.6. Junior Tara Struyk also competed well, crossing the line in the 39th position with a time of 21:22.0.
Rounding out the West Virginia effort was Jennifer Davis who finished in 83rd (22:06.0), Jennifer Kemp in 87th (22:07.5), Devon Plesuk in 93rd (22:12.8), Rachel Carden in 136th (22:43.0) and Susan Davis in 192nd (23:39.8).
After an impressive performance today, the Mountaineers have two weeks off to prepare for the BIG EAST Championships scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 31, in Van Courtlandt Park, N.Y.
