MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The No. 6 West Virginia University women's soccer team (13-2-0) earned its ninth shutout of the season with a 5-0 victory over Radford (5-6-1) on Friday night at the Mountaineer Soccer Complex.
The Mountaineers scored back-to-back goals just 10 minutes into the match to set the tone for the entire contest. Senior midfielder Lisa Stoia netted the game-opening goal off assists from Ashley Weimer and Kambria Riggins at the 10:33 mark. Junior Laura Kane followed that with a goal off a direct kick only a minute later to give WVU the early 2-0 lead it would never relinquish.
West Virginia owned a 24-0 shot advantage at the half and outshot the Highlanders 36-3 on the night.
Sophomore Marisa Kanela added her fourth and fifth goals off the season to advance the Mountaineer lead to 4-0, and junior defender Ashley Weimer scored her first-career goal with 13 minutes to go to round out the scoring for the night.
Radford goalkeeper Tara Oleartchick had eight saves on the evening.
The Mountaineers finished the contest with 14 corner kicks, the second most in school history.
