MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University men's soccer team (4-7-2) prepares to face its second straight top 25 team when they host No. 18 Seton Hall (5-3-4) on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m.
The team is coming off of a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to No.25 Virginia on the road. The Mountaineers grabbed the lead in the 79th minute when senior Rusty Girton drilled a shot into the back of the net. However, the Cavaliers would knot the game up less than a minute later and then score the game winner with under five minutes remaining in regulation.
The Pirates got back on track Wednesday after a 1-0 road loss to Villanova by returning home to defeat Manhattan 3-1. The win ended a four game stretch, which Seton Hall went 0-2-2.
Senior team captain Luke Vercollone enters the match leading the Pirate offense. The midfielder has recorded three goals and five assists, good enough to lead the team in points.
The Mountaineers will try to keep up their solid play as they have allowed only 1.07 goals per game. In goal freshman Nick Noble has shined, allowing only .84 goals per game in ten matches this season.
In last year's contest the Mountaineers pulled off a 2-1 victory in South Orange, N.J. However, the Pirates own the all-time series lead with a 2-6-0 mark.
