MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University athletic director Ed Pastilong today announced the 2004 Mountaineer gymnastics schedule.
WVU will host six home matches this year, including the Blue and Gold intrasquad meet to open the season. The Mountaineers hit the road for six meets including the East Atlantic Gymnastics League championship at Pitt.
Five of West Virginia's opponents this season finished last season ranked in the top 25 (No. 10 Michigan, No. 16 Ohio State, No. 21 Denver, No. 23 Minnesota, No. 25 NC State.) Several other opponents flirted with the national rankings all season long.
WVU's home meet against Michigan and Maryland on Sunday, February 22, at 1 p.m. is the 30th anniversary alumni meet. This season coach Linda Burdette is celebrating her 30th year at the helm of the WVU program and the meet will be a reunion of all her former gymnasts.
"This schedule is one of the best we've had at WVU in a while," Burdette said. "It'll be good competition and hopefully we'll rise to the level of our opponents and do very well. There are a lot of great teams on the docket and I think it will definitely be very good gymnastics to come watch."
