The Pirates come into Wednesday’s game with a 10-6 overall record and a 4-2 mark in Big East play. Seton Hall’s six losses have come against Temple, San Francisco, Michigan, N.C. State, Connecticut and Villanova.
However, the Pirates only fell to the No. 2-ranked Huskies by a 53-48 count and dropped a six-point decision to nationally ranked Villanova in its most recent loss on Jan. 18.
In its last two games, Seton Hall produced conference wins over Syracuse and Providence.
Six-two junior forward Charlene Thomas leads Seton Hall with an average of 12.6 points per game. Thomas is the only Pirate player averaging double figures, though Seton Hall has six players averaging seven points or better. Five-three guard Monica Johnson is averaging 9.2 points per game.
West Virginia (11-5, 0-5) is coming off a 69-61 loss at No. 25 Boston College last Saturday. Like WVU’s four other conference losses, the Mountaineers were in the game until late.
Yolanda Paige scored 12 points and Kate Bulger added 11 for the Mountaineers against BC.
Bulger, West Virginia’s leading scorer averaging 15.6 points per game, has fallen on tough times lately. She made just 5 of 19 field goal attempts and just 1 of 7 from three-point distance at BC, and is just 13 of her last 47 field goal attempts for 27.7 percent.
Junior Sherell Sowho is averaging 13.1 points per game and junior Michelle Carter is averaging 11.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.
Sophomore Yolanda Paige continues to lead the Big East with an average of 7.6 assists per game.
With the loss last Saturday at Boston College, West Virginia has dropped nine straight Big East games since last year.
Tip off for Wednesday night’s game is 7 p.m. and MSNsportsNET.com’s Internet coverage begins at 6:50 p.m.
