Rifle: Shooters Win Eighth Straight

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University rifle team (8-0, 5-0) defeated Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) foe Xavier (5-3, 3-2) this afternoon at the WVU Rifle Range, 6215-6198.
Despite losing the air rifle event, 1545-1556, the Mountaineers outscored the Musketeers in smallbore 4670-4642.
Senior Nicole Allaire led WVU in smallbore with a 1178 and freshman Ryan Baum fired a 1163 to tie his personal best. Senior Wade Tyner (1160) and junior Jon Hammond (1169) completed the Mountaineer squad.
In air rifle, Allaire led WVU with a 390. Senior Gary Longwell (386), freshman Brain Launer (385) and junior Eric Hensil (384) rounded out WVU's shooters.
The Mountaineers return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 28, when they host a non-conference match against defending national champion Alaska-Fairbanks (7-0) at the WVU Rifle Range at 8 a.m.
