Rifle: Shooters Improve to 6-0

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University rifle team (6-0) remains undefeated after a win over Air Force (2-3) this afternoon at the WVU Rifle Range. The Mountaineers defeated the Falcons, 6204-6108.
WVU out shot Air Force, 4663-4583, in smallbore. Junior Jon Hammond led the competition with a score of 1175, senior Nicholas Breffitt of Air Force finished second with a 1174 and Mountaineer Wade Tyner shot a 1168 for third place. The Mountaineers’ smallbore team included Hammond, Tyner, junior Nicole Allaire (1162) and senior Josh Byers (1158).
In air rifle, Allaire shot a match-high 392, junior Eric Hensil fired a 386 for second place and Breffit of Air Force finished third with a 385. Freshman Brian Launer (379) and senior Gary Longwell (384) rounded out the Mountaineer scoring. WVU outscored Air Force, 1541-1525.
The Mountaineers return to action on Monday, Jan. 20, when they host Ohio State (0-3) at the WVU Rifle Range beginning at 8 a.m.
