Sporting Geography: Boston

This week the men’s basketball team is traveling to Boston, MA to take on the Boston College Eagles. Let’s take a timeout to learn more about the city of Boston.
On December 16, 1773, American patriots dressed as African Americans and Mohawk Indians dumped 10,000 pounds of tea into the Boston harbor. This event became known as the “Boston Tea Party.”
The Boston Latin School, the nation’s oldest, was founded in 1636. Its alumnae include American legends Samuel Adams, John Hancock, and Benjamin Franklin. Boston is also home to the oldest college in North America, Harvard University. Harvard is known as one of the premier universities in the world.
Boston is also famous for its sports teams, the Celtics, Red Sox, Bruins, and Patriots. The Celtics are known as one of the elite franchises of all-time with players such as Larry Bird, Robert Parish, Kevin McHale, Bob Cousy, and Bill Russell. The Patriots were the 2002 Super Bowl Champions of the NFL.
