Indoor Track: Mountaineers Shine at WVU Invite

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia indoor track teams enjoyed a successful afternoon at the WVU Invite today in the WVU Shell Building. The Mountaineers tallied twenty first place finishes in the men's and women's track and field events.
Junior All-American Ciara Chic led the way for the women's team, winning the 100m in 7.64 seconds and 200m in 25.34 seconds. Freshman sprinter Junique Morris finished second in both events behind Chic, finishing the 100m in 7.84 and the 200m in 25.44.
Freshman Michele McGinnis won the shot put and the weight throw for the Mountaineers. The 4x400m relay team also turned in a first place finish, turning in a time of 4:07.74.
Other first place finishes turned in by the women's team: Pam Richardson in the 400m, Jennifer Davis in the 500m, Rachel Carden in the 1,000m, Megan Metcalfe in the 1 mile, Nancy Regalbuto in high jump and Jennifer Hall in the pole vault.
On the men's side, junior William White won the 100m in 6.74 and the 200m in 22.04.
First place finises for the Mountaineers were turned in by: Matt Petitt in the 1 mile, Zach Sabatino in the 3,000m, Justin Willyoung in the high jump, Jason Mandato in the pole vault, Abraham Jones in the long jump, Marc Kellman in the triple jump and Nick Watt in the shot put.
"We had some huge performances and made several conference cuts. Now, it's time to practice hard for the next two weeks to prepare for our next meet," said coach Jeff Huntoon.
The Mountaineer track teams return to action on Saturday, January 25 at the Maryland Open in Prince George County, Md.
