Swimming and Diving: WVU Sweeps Duquesne

PITTSBURGH - In their first meet since Dec. 8, the West Virginia University swimming and diving team swept non-conference foe Duquesne on Friday evening at the Towers Pool.
The men's squad (5-3) downed the Dukes by a 103-86 count while the women's team (6-3) won 110-95.
The Mountaineer men were led by all-BIG EAST freestyler Kleyton Franca, who picked up individual victories in the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Franca also anchored WVU's 200 medley relay team of senior Andrew Engle, junior Can Eter and senior Nick Frye that placed first with a 1:39.89.
Freshman Steven Earley stopped the clocks at 2:00.24 for a first-place finish in the 200 individual medley while junior Travis Watson notched a victory in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.54.
WVU sophomore Pedro Pinto added two individual wins in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke events.
West Virginia's women's squad was the beneficiary of a solid day for sophomore Livia Cascao, who was victorious in the 50 and 100 freestyle events.
All-BIG EAST freestyler Devlyn Quinn placed first in the 1000 freestyle and the 100 backstroke while freshman Ashley Bissett won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:15.32.
Freshman Olga Tzinker stopped the clocks at 2:14.51 to claim victory in the 200 individual medley.
The Mountaineers will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 11, at noon, to face rival Pitt at Trees Pool in Pittsburgh, Pa.
