MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University rifle team (5-0) handed Nebraska (3-1) its first loss of the year this afternoon at the WVU Rifle range.
Jon Hammond fired a new personal best of 1176 in smallbore to lead the Mountaineers to a 6203-6126 win over the Cornhuskers.
The team of Nicole Allaire (1162), Josh Byers (1158) and Wade Tyner (1176) defeated the Cornhuskers in smallbore competition by 58 points with a score of 4662-4604.
In air rifle, Allaire (386), Eric Hensil (381), Brian Launer (388) and Gary Longwell (386) outscored Nebraska, 1541-4604.
The Mountaineers will take a month off before the travel to the Palmyra Invitational in Palmyra, Pa., on Jan. 12, 2003.
