Swimming and Diving: Women Lead After Day One

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The West Virginia University swimming and diving team completed day one of the Notre Dame Invitational on Thursday at the Rolfs Aquatic Center.
The Mountaineer women finished with 385.50 points to take an early lead after the first day of competition.
Lee Ann Johnston, Megan Carlson, Jackie Graulty and Devlyn Quinn combined to place first in the 400 medley relay, stopping the clock at 3:56.53 for WVU's lone victory on the day.
Quinn took second place in the 50 free with a time of 24.09 while Ashley Bissett posted a career-best 5:05.99 in the 500 free.
The WVU men's team tallied 340 points for a third-place tie with Wyoming, 215 points behind first-place Notre Dame.
All-BIG EAST freestyler Kleyton Franca placed second in the 500 free with a time of 4:37.00 while Matt Drozd finished second in the 50 free, stopping the clock at 20.89.
"We had a solid day on the women's side of things and we hope we can gain some momentum for the men through the final two days of the meet," said coach Eric McIlquham."
The Mountaineers complete day two of the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday, December 6, all day, at the Rolfs Aquatic Center.
