The Avon, Ohio, native led both the Mountaineers and the BIG EAST in goals, points and game-winning goals throughout the 2002 season. The forward netted a career high and school record 20 goals and was a large factor in her team's 18 win season. In addition to her 20 goals, Abbott tallied seven assists on the year to bring her point total to 47, another West Virginia single season record. At the season's end, Abbott set the women's soccer season record for goals (20), points (47), game-winning-goals (9) and shots taken (159).
Abbott was named BIG EAST offensive player of the year in November and was also a first-team all-BIG EAST selection in 2002.
As of December 2, she ranks 13th in the nation with a 0.91 goals per game average, and is tabbed 17th in Division I in points per game, owning a 2.14 average.
Soccer Buzz will announce the player of the year award winner later in December upon completion of voting by the Soccer Buzz staff and all Division I coaches.
