Wrestling: WVU Tops Atlantic Rankings

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The West Virginia University wrestling team has been ranked as the top team in the Atlantic region, according to the WrestlingReport.com. The Mountaineers, rated as the eighth-best team in the nation, are ranked in front of Lehigh and Cornell.
All 10 WVU starters are ranked regionally, topped by Greg Jones who is ranked first at 174. Shane Cunanan (141) and Billy Smith (149) are ranked second regionally, Brandon Lauer (133) is third, Seth Lisa (125) is fourth and Ryan Wilman (184) and Brent Miller (HWT) are ranked fifth.
Nationally, WVU has several wrestlers ranked in the top 15 according to the most recent Intermatwrestle.com poll. Jones is ranked first, Cunanan is third, Smith and Tom McMath are ranked ninth, Wilman is 12th, Miller is 13th and Lauer is 15th.
The Mountaineers will compete this weekend, December 6-7, at the Las Vegas Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev. Last year, West Virginia finished second at the prestigious tournament.
