MORGANTOWN, W.VA. – West Virginia University running back Avon Cobourne was named to the Associated Press All-America third team, it was announced today.

Cobourne finished second in the Big East conference in rushing with 1,593 yards on 310 carries. The senior rushed for a career-high 260 yards and scored two touchdowns in a game earlier this year against East Carolina, and reached the 100-yard mark nine times this season.
Cobourne is the conference’s leading career rusher with 4,922 yards that ranks him 13th in NCAA history. Last week Cobourne was named to the all-Big East first team.
The Cherry Hill, N.J., native joins Oregon State’s Steve Jackson on the AP All-America third team.
Penn State’s Larry Johnson and Miami’s Willis McGahee were named to the first team, while Colorado’s Chris Brown and Oklahoma’s Quentin Griffin were named to the second team.
West Virginia begins preparation today for the Continental Tire Bowl to be played at Ericsson Stadium in Charlotte, N.C., on Saturday, Dec. 28.
