CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Bowl officials announced late today that fewer than 1,000 tickets remain for public purchase for the inaugural Continental Tire Bowl.
Five days after announcing its match-up between Virginia and West Virginia, the bowl has recorded over 71,380 tickets sold for the December 28th game. Ericsson Stadium, the venue for the game, has a capacity of 72,300. The lower bowl of the stadium, some 36,000 seats, is sold out entirely. Bowl officials have opened all sections in the stadium for sale.
"The demand for tickets has exceeded our wildest expectations," said Ken Haines, Executive Director for the game. "While we were confident that West Virginia fans would buy tickets in very significant numbers, Virginia fans have been equally supportive. Virginia has sold over 20,000 tickets for the game, which should dispel any thoughts that Virginia fans do not travel well."
The remaining upper level seats are priced at $25. All other seating locations are sold out.
Tickets are available through all TicketMaster outlets in the southeast and online at www.ticketmaster.com. To order from TicketMaster by phone in Charlotte, call (704) 522-6500. Tickets are also available at the Carolina Panthers Box Office, located at Ericsson Stadium in Charlotte.
