MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The West Virginia University wrestling team will travel to Annapolis, Md., to take part in the Navy Classic on Saturday, Nov. 23.
Last year, the Mountaineers finished second to Purdue. Eleventh-ranked Billy Smith (149) and No.1 Greg Jones (174) will look to defend their titles they won last year. Brent Miller won at 197 last year but will be competing at heavyweight this year. Brandon Lauer claimed the 133 bracket but will be wrestling at 141 on Saturday.
With Jones' next two victories, he will surpass the all-time consecutive wins mark of 24, which was set by his brother Vertus in 1999-2000. Jones has not lost since January 12, 2002, when he was forced to forfeit due to injury at Ohio State.
Among the other teams competing will be Navy, N.C. State, Virginia Tech, The Citadel and Kent State.
