Varsity Sports: Metcalfe Named Athlete of the Week

West Virginia University has named sophomore runner Megan Metcalfe its athlete of the week for her efforts this past weekend.

The Edmonton, Alberta, native finished first at the NCAA Mid Atlantic Regional meet at Canaan Valley Resort in Davis, W.Va. She finished the 6,000-meter race with a time of 20:32.0, nine seconds faster than Tracey Brauksieck of Penn State. With the victory, Metcalfe automatically qualifies for the NCAA Championships. She has finished in the top five of every race this year and the victory marks her fourth first place finish of the year.

Others nominated: Thomas Fletcher (men’s swimming) and Seth Lisa (wrestling).
