Rifle: WVU Undefeated on the Road

XAVIER, OHIO - The West Virginia University rifle team (2-0, 2-0) defeated Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) foes Kentucky (2-3, 1-1) and Jacksonville State (2-2, 1-2) this weekend at Xavier, Ohio.
Against Kentucky, the Mountaineers beat the Wildcats 6165-6157. Mountaineers were edged in the air rifle competition, 1547-1540. Bradley Wheeldon of Kentucky shot a 397, one point shy of the Wildcat's school record. WVU's air team was comprised of senior Nicole Allaire (385) senior Josh Byers (386), senior Gary Longwell (386) and junior Eric Hensil (383).
The smallbore team of Allaire (1166), Byers (1159), junior Jon Hammond (1144) and senior Wade Tyner (1156) out shot the Wildcats, 4625-4610.
The Mountaineers defeated Jacksonville, 6171-6123. In the air rifle competition, Longwell set a new personal best with a 391. Longwell, Allaire (391), Byers (384) and Hensil (379)'s scores led WVU to a 1545-1523 defeat over the Gamecocks.
In smallbore, Allaire (1158), Byers (1150), Hammond (1157) and Tyner (1161) fired a 4626 and Jacksonville shot a 4600.
The Mountaineers scores also count as part of the Walsh Tournament hosted by Xavier. Results from the three weekend tournament will be available by November 25.
WVU is back in action on Nov. 23, when they travel to Army for a pair of matches against the Black Knights and Ole Miss beginning at 8 a.m.
