MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University rifle team will participate in the Walsh Tournament on Friday, Nov. 15, and Saturday, Nov. 16, in Xavier, Ohio.
The Mountaineers will record their first dual match scores of the year against Great America Conference (GARC) rivals Kentucky ( 2-2, 1-0) on Friday at 3 p.m., and Jacksonville State (2-1, 1-1) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Last season the Wildcats won the GARC smallbore championship with a score of 4708, which was a school and conference record. The Mountaineers came in second with a combined score of 4690.
"Kentucky is a touch school, but they lost James Nash, who was one of their best shooters," said coach Marsha Beasley. "Jacksonville had a good recruiting season, so it will be an interesting weekend."
The Walsh Tournament is the largest indoor match in the nation and began on November 8 and ends Nov. 24. The results of the three weekend tournament will be available by Nov. 25.
