MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University swimming and diving team is set to take on BIG EAST foe Seton Hall on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 1 p.m., in West Orange, N.J.
The Mountaineer women (4-3) had a solid showing last weekend against Louisville and Ohio State in double dual meet action.
The team pushed Ohio State until the last event, the 200 free relay, but an early start on an exchange nullified what would have been a Mountaineer victory, as the team fell 122-112.
Led by junior Devlyn Quinn's victories in the 100 and 200 freestyle events, the women defeated Louisville handily, 158-74. Sophomore Livia Cascao took second in the 50 free while Lee Ann Johnston placed second in the 200 backstroke.
The WVU men (3-3) also defeated Louisville (172-62) but lost to Ohio State (139-96) in the double dual meet.
All-BIG EAST sophomore Kleyton Franca led the Mountaineers with first-place finishes in the 200 and 500 free. Sophomore Pedro Pinto notched a victory in the 200 fly while Matt Drozed placed first in the 50 free.
The Mountaineers swept Seton Hall last season.
"Seton Hall has a second-year coach who has improved their team a lot," said coach Eric McIlquham. "They have a few very talented swimmers and that will make it a pretty competitive contest. It's always important when you face a BIG EAST team."
