Eddie Becker played basketball at WVU from 1952-54 and left WVU as its second-highest leading scorer.

A native of Wheeling, West Virginia, Becker played in 76 career games, starting 58 of them. He finished his career with 1,127 points and 346 rebounds. Those 1,127 career points were second all-time at the time behind All-American Mark Workman’s (1950), 1,553 points scored.

Becker averaged 14.8 points for his career – 18.7 points as a senior, 15.0 points as a junior and 11.4 points as a sophomore. He scored a career-high 33 points against St. John’s on Jan. 5, 1954, and grabbed a career-best 13 rebounds in a Dec. 1, 1952, game against Waynesburg.

His teams went 23-4, 19-7 and 12-11 during his career. The 1952 team that went 23-4 won a Southern Conference regular season title and finished ranked No. 9 in the final Associated Press Top 25 and No. 14 in the final United Press International poll. Becker led the 1951 WVU freshman team in scoring with a 25-point per game average.

Becker was named to the Southern Conference All-Tournament First Team in 1952 and to the Southern Conference All-Tournament Second Team in 1953. At the time he graduated, he was one of 19 players listed on the WVU All-Time Team.

As a senior in high school, he led Wheeling High to a 25-0 record and a state title, earned first team all-class all-state honors. He was inducted into the OVAC (Ohio Valley Athletic Conference) Hall of Fame in 2016.
