
WVU Closes Big 12 Outdoor Championship

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team concluded competition at the 2018 Big 12 Outdoor Championship, in Waco, Texas, on Sunday.
Results
The Mountaineers took part in a pair of events on the final day of the three-day conference meet at Baylor's Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium. Redshirt senior Jillian Forsey posted a 16th-place finish in the women's 5,000 meters, earning a time of 17:41.17, while freshman Bree Warren took 25th place in the event in 18:32.88. Redshirt freshman Sarah Wills also competed in the 5,000 meters for WVU.
Earlier in the day, junior Faith Penny competed in the women's high jump.
West Virginia closes the Big 12 meet with four trips to the podium on the weekend. On Saturday, redshirt senior Amy Cashin earned the silver medal in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:00.04, while redshirt junior Madelin Gardner took fourth in the women's pole vault (4.24 meters – 13 feet, 11 inches).
For Cashin, the performance was her seventh overall conference track and field accolade (indoor and outdoor), while Gardner's finish was the best of her conference-meet career.
In the two-day heptathlon, redshirt senior Meghan Jean-Baptiste finished seventh overall, earning her first all-conference performance of her collegiate career. Jean-Baptiste earned a personal-best 4,751 points, good for the fifth-most in WVU history.
Redshirt sophomore Olivia Hill earned the Mountaineers' first top-eight finish of the meet on Friday night. Hill finished seventh in the women's 10,000 meters, crossing the finish line in 36:56.18.
No. 16 Kansas State was crowned the women's team champion at the event.
WVU returns to action when qualified Mountaineers compete in the NCAA East Preliminary Regionals, from May 24-27, in Tampa, Florida. Entering the week, six Mountaineers ranked in the top 48 of their respective events on the NCAA East qualifying list. The meet's full list of participants will be announced later this week.
