
Seven Earn Academic All-Big 12 Honors

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Seven members of the West Virginia University cross country team were named to the Academic All-Big 12 Women's Cross Country First Team, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Three Mountaineers earned spots on the team with a 4.0 grade point average: redshirt senior Jillian Forsey (exercise physiology), redshirt junior Olivia Hill (exercise physiology) and senior Andrea Pettit (immunology and medical microbiology). Redshirt freshman Marianne Abdalah (biology), redshirt sophomore Antigone Archer (social work), sophomore Bree Warren (speech pathology) and redshirt sophomore Sarah Wills (biomedical engineering) also represented WVU on the team.
In all, 148 student-athletes, including 94 women, were recognized on the all-academic teams. A total of 24 honorees garnered a 4.0 GPA.
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The Mountaineers return to action on Friday, Nov. 9, at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional in University Park, Pennsylvania.
