MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men’s soccer team is ranked No. 17 in the latest RPI, the NCAA unveiled today.
The Mountaineers (6-2-1) also sit at No. 22 in this week’s Top Drawer Soccer Top 25 and the College Soccer News rankings. The NSCAA Coaches’ Poll and Soccer America rankings will be announced tomorrow.
West Virginia is coming off a 2-1 overtime loss to Saint Mary’s (Calif.) on Saturday afternoon, snapping a school record seven-match shutout streak that lasted more than 750 minutes. Junior goalkeeper Jose Santos, the reigning Mid-America Conference Player of the Week, allowed two goals, his first since the first half of WVU’s season-opening contest on Aug. 26. Junior midfielder Jad Arslan scored his second goal in as many matches for West Virginia.
MAC action begins for the Mountaineers on Friday, October 7, at 7 p.m. ET when they host Bowling Green at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. WVU is 2-2-1 against BGSU in four seasons as conference foes, including 1-1 at home. It is WVU Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night, and the team will sign autographs following the match. Additionally, the first 400 fans will receive a free WVU pint glass, courtesy of Coca-Cola.
