MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia jumped one spot in both the Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN Top 25 polls released Sunday.
The Mountaineers (8-4) went from No. 21 to No. 20 in the final regular season media poll, while moving from No. 24 to No. 23 in the coaches poll. West Virginia has been in the AP poll for three straight weeks since entering for the first time after beating Pitt 52-31 on Nov. 15.
Maryland, West Virginia’s opponent in the Gator Bowl, is ranked 23rd in the AP poll and 24th in the coaches poll.
Miami is the only other Big East team in the national rankings. The Hurricanes are ranked No. 9 in the USA Today/ESPN poll and No. 10 in the AP poll. Pitt, Virginia Tech and Syracuse also received votes.
