Preston Wages joined West Virginia University in April 2017, as the Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance.
Wages brings eight years of experience in compliance and was most recently the Director of Compliance at the University of Arizona. While in Tucson, Wages started out as the compliance coordinator. In that capacity, he researched NCAA rules, performed internal audits and monitored recruiting activities, official visits and other institutional compliance responsibilities.
In May 2013, Wages was promoted to Director of Compliance for the Wildcats. He served as the main contact for all issues pertaining to men’s basketball including investigating violations, interpretations, eligibility, education, head coach responsibility and the elite athlete program. Wages was responsible for educating all individuals associated with men’s basketball, baseball, women’s soccer and the softball programs. He served as the primary contact for promotional activities and donation requests, while also serving as the staff designee to approve all of those requests.
Prior to his time in Tucson, Wages began his career as a Compliance Assistant at the University of Arkansas. He served as the primary compliance contact for men’s and women’s golf.
Wages served as a student equipment manager for the NC State football program and earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from NCSU in 2007. He attended the University of Arkansas School of Law during the 2009-10 season as a visiting student and earned his juris doctor from the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Law in 2010.
