Krysta Valerio enters her first year as an academic coordinator for West Virginia University Intercollegiate Athletics.
As part of the student-athlete development unit, Valerio oversees the tutoring program, hiring and evaluating the tutors. She also ensures that all tutors follow NCAA guidelines and academic integrity. Additionally, Valerio arranges meetings between student-athletes and tutors.
Prior to her arrival at West Virginia, Valerio spent the last eight months as a compliance intern at Central Connecticut State. While at CCSU, she aided oversight of book loans to student athletes, conducted preliminary eligibility evaluations for prospective student-athletes, assisted with degree audits and monitored admission reports.
Before arriving at CCSU, Valerio worked in various capacities as a graduate assistant at Louisville including tutor coordinator assistant, student-athlete academic services graduate assistant and student-athlete academics and development intern.
In her various roles, Valerio assisted the coordinator in hiring, training and evaluating 70-plus tutors. She scheduled tutoring sessions and presented trainings to tutors to meet certification requirements. As an academic services graduate assistant, she served as the academic advisor for women’s lacrosse, volleyball and field hockey. She coordinated weekly student-athlete meetings to achieve academic objectives and prepared weekly grade reports. She served as the advisor for the Louisville International Family Enrichment student-athlete committee.
Valerio, a native of Southington, Connecticut, earned her bachelors degree in sport and leisure management from Eastern Connecticut State University in 2014. She obtained her master’s degree in sport administration from Louisville in 2015.
