Jake Kirkham joined the Mountaineer Athletic Club staff in July 2014 as a major gifts officer. Kirkham is responsible for securing high-end annual gifts and funds for major capital projects, as well as endowing student-athlete scholarships. Kirkham will work with MAC members in North Central West Virginia, as well as the Beckley, Princeton and Charleston areas, Virginia, South Carolina, California, Chicago and South Florida.
Kirkham joins WVU after spending the last three years at Utah, serving as a major gifts officer in the development office. While with the Utah Office of Development, he contributed to a very successful capital campaign working with supporters who had a capacity to give $25,000 or more. Kirkham managed an active portfolio of 100-150 prospects in and around the state of Utah. Additionally, he was the lead development officer in Los Angeles, Seattle and New York City.
As a student, Kirkham was successful leading an effort that raised over $90,000 for cancer research. He also served as a marketing assistant for Utah athletics and was a sports talk radio host. At Ohio University, Kirkham conducted more than 150 hours of research on college athletics development, interviewed industry professionals and produced a 75-page report about best practices.
Kirkham received his bachelor’s degree in economics in 2007 from Utah and his master’s in sport administration in 2014 from Ohio University. He and his wife, Whitney, have three kids – daughter Cassity and identical twin sons, Charlie and Walt.
