M.G. Bailey joined the Mountaineer Athletic Club staff in July 2014 as a major gifts officer. Bailey is responsible for securing high-end annual gifts and funds for major capital projects, as well as endowing student-athlete scholarships. He will work with MAC members in North Central West Virginia and the state’s Eastern panhandle, Eastern and Central Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh, Maryland, Northern Virginia, Baltimore, New York, New Jersey and the Upper Northeast, including Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
Bailey comes to WVU after spending the last two years as the director of annual giving at George Washington. While at George Washington, he managed a portfolio of 125-150 donors and prospects, provided strategic direction and management of a comprehensive annual giving program and oversaw a campaign for the sailing program to purchase a new fleet of boats. Additionally, Bailey served as the assistant director of athletics development for one year and achieved a 26 percent increase in total attainment and 36 percent increase in total cash in first year.
Prior to a year as the assistant branch manager at First National Bank of Lenior City in Loudon, Tennessee, Bailey served as the assistant director of development for the College of Business Administration at Tennessee for two years. While there, he developed and cultivated a portfolio of 100 major gift and annual fund prospects, raised up to $1 million annually for the College and University and contributed to the unit’s achievement of 143 percent of its $80 million campaign goal.
Bailey also spent two years as the assistant director for the Iron Dukes Annual Fund at Duke.
Bailey received his bachelor’s degree in communications studies in 2005 and his master’s degree in college student personnel in 2007; both degrees are from Tennessee. He and his wife, Mollie, reside in Morgantown.
