Susan Hammond joined the Mountaineer Athletic Club staff in June 2013 as the director of donor relations and special events. She will manage a comprehensive stewardship plan to support WVU athletic programs involving donor cultivation, gift acknowledgements and special events.
Hammond came to the MAC after spending seven months as the director of donor relations/campaign coordinator at the WVU Foundation. In that position, she ensured stewardship of donors and engaged and informed prospects on the needs of WVU and the benefits of donating. Hammond also coordinated various activities to build awareness for the “A State of Minds” campaign.
Prior to her time with the WVU Foundation, Hammond served as president for Cardinal Consulting, LLC, in Morgantown, for four months, where she consulted on fundraising strategy for multiple candidates, including Congressman David McKinley’s re-election campaign. She also developed comprehensive fundraising plans to enhance donor cultivation and managed donor relations.
Hammond served as the finance director for McKinley for Congress from October 2011 – August 2012, where she managed the fundraising for the Congressman’s 2012 re-election campaign, developed, executed and tracked the fundraising plan and coordinated statewide fundraising events. Prior to that, she served as the assistant to the chairman and executive director at The Indiana Republican Party (May 2009 – July 2011), where she maintained the chairman’s schedule, coordinated top fundraising and political events for 1,000+ guests and served as the point person for fundraising events. Hammond also served as the event and office coordinator for The C2 Group (January 2006 – July 2007), in Washington, D.C., and the scheduler for Congressman Terry Everett (Alabama – 2nd District) in the United States House of Representatives (February 2004 – December 2005).
Among her honors and accomplishments, Hammond was a member of the 2012 Campaign Finance College at the Republican National Committee and a nominated participant of the 2010 Bowen Institute on Political Participation.
Hammond received her bachelor’s degree in public relations from the University of Alabama in 2003. She and her husband, Alex, the director of football operations at WVU, reside in Morgantown.
