Shannon McNamara is in her ninth year with the West Virginia University Intercollegiate Athletic Department and serves as the Associate Director of Athletic Communications, a position she was elevated to in June 2015.
McNamara is the primary media contact for the 18-time NCAA Champion rifle team, the four-time defending Big 12 Conference champion women’s soccer team and the nationally ranked gymnastics team. Additionally, she supports the communication efforts for the WVU football team and assists with the publicity efforts for the Mountaineer Athletic Club.
McNamara previously held the positions of assistant director of athletic communications (2012-15) and graduate assistant (2008-10) within the WVU Athletic Communications Office. As a graduate assistant, she worked with the rifle, gymnastics and football teams, as well as the men’s and women’s basketball programs.
A native of Venetia, Pennsylvania, she held the position of communications assistant at the BIG EAST Conference from 2007-08, where she served as the primary contact for nine conference sports and represented the league at regular-season and postseason events. Additionally, McNamara served as the sports information director for the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) for two seasons (2011-12).
McNamara previously worked in the WVU Athletic Communications Office as a student assistant (2006-07) and served as the primary media contact for cross country, track and field, swimming and diving and tennis.
McNamara owns two degrees from WVU. She earned her bachelor’s of science in journalism, with a specialization in public relations, from the Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalist in 2007, and her master’s in sport management in 2010.
