As WVU’s Associate Athletic Director for Communications, Michael Fragale directs and oversees the sports communications unit, consisting of sports information, publications, web site and department video. He is also the secondary media contact for West Virginia football.
Fragale joined the athletic staff in June 1988, and served three years as associate sports information director, before becoming the broadcast/advertising manager in the summer of 1991. In that role, he managed affiliate relations, assisted the school’s radio and television network in both live and studio programming, helped in WVU’s creative marketing campaigns for football and men’s basketball and continued to work with the publicity efforts for Mountaineer football.
During his tenure as WVU’s broadcast manager, he was part of a production team that led both the radio and television networks to numerous state, regional and national awards in programming.
He became the director of communications for athletics in 2004 and the assistant athletic director for communications in 2007, before being promoted to Associate Athletic Director in 2014.
Fragale is a member of CoSIDA, Football Writers of America, WVU’s all-time sports committee and a member of the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.
A native of Flemington, W.Va., Fragale received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from WVU and a master’s degree in sport management and administration from WVU. He and his wife, Kate, reside in Morgantown and have two children, Anthony and Emme.
