MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men’s soccer team has added a match to its 2017 schedule, with SIU Edwardsville set to join the Mid-American Conference beginning this season.
The Mountaineers will travel to Edwardsville, Illinois, on Saturday, November 4, at 8 p.m. ET, to face SIUE, the newest affiliate member of the MAC.
SIUE is coming off an NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 berth in 2016 after returning to Division I in 2008. The Cougars won the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament last season and at least 10 games for the third time in the last five years. SIUE has made the NCAA Tournament as a Division I member 15 times and won the National Championship in 1979 and was the Division II runner-up in 2004 and a semifinalist in 2005.
The Cougars join the MAC for men’s soccer, which also includes Akron, Bowling Green, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan, in addition to the Mountaineers.
Additionally, WVU’s home match against UCF on Saturday, Sept. 9, has been set for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium, and will follow the WVU football team’s home opener against East Carolina at noon.
