MORGANTOWN, W.Va –
Three members of the West Virginia University track and field team opened the 2017 Big 12 Outdoor Championship on Friday at the Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kansas, highlighted by a fourth-place finish by junior Maggie Drazba
Drazba, fellow junior Brynn Harshbarger
and redshirt freshman Olivia Hill
competed in the 10,000-meter race to open the weekend’s competition for the Mountaineers.
Drazba placed fourth overall, crossing the finish line in 34:09.30. Hill finished in 35.38.75, setting a new personal-best time, to place 11th. Harshbarger did not finish the race.
“This was a very good 10K for us,” coach Sean Cleary said. “Maggie had a few setbacks after racing at Stanford. I am very happy with the way she negotiated her training opportunities that led to tonight’s performance. I felt Olivia ran quite poised. After running at UVA a month ago, (Olivia) Liv really embraced the opportunity. A minimal improvement – we will take that.”
Tomorrow's second day of the Big 12 Championship is slated to begin at 11 a.m. ET, with events lasting until 9 p.m. Fans are able to watch the event on FloTrack.com
