WVU Tennis Falls to No. 30 TCU

Morgantown, W.Va.The West Virginia University women’s tennis team fell to No. 30 TCU on Friday, as the Mountaineers dropped a 4-0 decision at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth, Texas.
 
WVU (4-12, 0-6 Big 12) opened the match by conceding the doubles point, as TCU was able to best the Mountaineers in two of three contests. On the No. 3 court, TCU’s Seda Arantekin and Madison Tedford dropped WVU's Abigail Rosiello and Sofia Duran, 6-2, to open the match. Kaja Mrgole and Christina Jordan would then drop Carolina Wegner and Donika Bashota, 6-2, on the second court to even the doubles matches at one apiece.
 
Sofiko Kadzhaya and Alexis Pereira went on to defeat the Mountaineer tandem of Lyn Yuen Choo and Paula Goetz, 6-4, on court No. 2 to secure the doubles point for the Horned Frogs.
 
“I thought we competed well today,” fourth-year coach Miha Lisac said. “Kaja (Mrgole) and Christina (Jordan) had a good match today and they are getting more and more confidence in doubles. Lyn Yuen (Choo) and Paula (Goetz) battled well but came just short of the set. We are focused on getting better every day we get out on the courts.”
 
TCU would go on to secure the first three singles' matches of the contest to claim the 4-0 victory over the Mountaineers. Wegner, would begin the singles matches by besting Duran in two sets, 6-3 and 6-2, at the No. 5 slot. On the first court, Mrgole fell in two sets, 6-2 and 7-5, to 73rd-ranked Arantekin to extend TCU’s team lead to 3-0.
 
On court No. 6, Rosiello fell in two sets, 6-3 and 6-4, as Alexis Pereira was able to clinch the match for the Horned Frogs.
 
The Mountaineers travel to Lubbock, Texas, to take on No. 5 Texas Tech on Sunday, April 9. Sunday’s contest will be held at the McLeod Tennis Center. First serve is set for 12:30 p.m. ET. Live stats will be also be available by clicking here.
