Morgantown, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s tennis team finished its weekend trip through Virginia with a 7-0 loss to William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, on Saturday.
“We couldn’t find the energy to follow up yesterday’s match today,” fourth-year coach Miha Lisac said. “We had an opportunity in doubles, but couldn’t convert to take the doubles point. We will continue to push forward and get ready for next weekend versus Buffalo.”
The Mountaineers lost the first two doubles matches as senior Kaja Mrgole
and freshman Christina Jordan
fell to the Tribe’s Lauren Goodman and Olivia Thaler, 6-4. William & Mary secured the doubles point when Marie Faure and Ekaterina Stepanova topped juniors Habiba Shaker
and Lyn Yuen Choo
, 6-4, at No. 2. WVU’s lone win of the day came when sophomore Paula Goetz
and junior Yvon Martinez
defeated Marie Groener and Charlotte Madson in a close match, 7-6 (3), on the third court.
The Tribe would then go on to win all six singles matches. Junior Habiba Shaker
won the first set but ultimately fell in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8, at No.1. Goodman dropped Mrgole, 6-3, 6-1, at No.2. On the third court, Faure defeated Goetz, 6-1, 6-1. William & Mary’s Thaler bested Christina Jordan
in two sets, 6-0, 6-2, at No.4. Choo fell to the Tribe’s Rosie Cheng at No. 5 and on the final court, Natalie Perry beat Martinez 6-3, 6-0.
