Nine Commit to Mountaineers

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University women’s soccer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown announced the addition of nine student-athletes for the 2017 season.
 
Set to join the 2016 National Runner-Up Mountaineers are: Marissa DeZorzi (Arona, Pennsylvania), Stefany Ferrer-Van Ginkel (Argencola, Barcelona), Danielle Gordon (Jacksonville, Florida), Lois Joel (North Finchley, London), Lexi Mitchell (Auburn, New York), Lauren Segalla (Salisbury, Connecticut), Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas), Ashley Triplett (Memphis, Tennessee) and Chloe Zamiela (Stuart, Florida).
 
 
Also ready to contribute in 2017 are previously announced early enrollees Issy Coombes and Malia Kaleiohi.
 
“I’m excited to bring such an experienced class into Morgantown,” Izzo-Brown said. “We have players coming in from not only all over the country, but all over the globe. They’ll bring a wealth of knowledge to WVU so we can continue the tradition of success built by previous Mountaineers. This class is coming here to win championships and to continue to achieve at the highest level.
 
“We enter the 2017 season with a large target on our back given our National Runner-Up finish in 2016. We’ll be depending on this group to push us to new success.”
 
Marissa DeZorzi, 5-3, Midfield, Arona, Pennsylvania
 
Multiple-year member of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Academy … reached semifinals of the 2015 U.S. Club Soccer National XIV Tournament with the U-16 Riverhounds Team … member of the id2 Olympic Development Program … invited to train at the U.S. National Training Center … also played basketball and ran track for Yough Senior High … daughter of Dannielle DeZorzi … birthday is September 1. 
 
Stefany Ferrer-Van Ginkel, 5-0, Forward/Midfielder, Argencola, Barcelona
 
Member of RCD Espanyol … two-year member of Fundació Esportiva Vilafranca … also two-year member of CF Igualada … previously played for C.F.S. Sant Boi and tallied 40 goals in 20 games in 2012-13 season … attended IES Pere Vives in Ingualada, Barcelona … daughter of Francesc Ferrer-Alegre and Astrid … has two sisters … birthday is October 17.
 
Danielle Gordon, 5-2, Defender/Forward, Jacksonville, Florida
 
Four-year member of Tampa Bay United … won five championships with the 2015 Tampa Bay United U-17 squad: U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship, Region 3 Championship, Florida State Cup Championship, Southern Region Premier League Championship and Disney Showcase Championship … 2014 Florida State Cup finalist and Florida U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship finalist with Tampa Bay United U-16 team … attended 2013 Olympique Lyonnaise Youth Academy in Lyon, France … four-year member of Florida ODP Team and Regional Camp G98 … three-year member of Region 3 ODP G98 … 2017 team captain at Atlantic Coast High … three-time All-Gateway Conference and All-First Coast honoree … three-time Atlantic Coast High MVP … two-time top player to watch … member of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Society … daughter of Dana and Rolanda Gordon … has one sister … birthday is December 4.

Six-year member of Syracuse Development Academy … won three New York State West State Cup Championships and two Region 1 Champions League titles … three-time Region 1 Championships participant … won 2016 Region 1 Championships and competed at the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships … also competed in the 2015 National Premier League Finals and the 2013 U.S. Youth Soccer National League … two-time player pool member for ODP New York West and member of 2014 ODP (1999) Tournament Team … five-year varsity team member at Auburn High … 2016 team captain and MVP … tallied 14 goals and two assists in final season … OHSL Freedom First Team All-League … scored five goals and chipped in six assists in 2013 en route to CNYCL Class AA First Team All-League honors … named Rookie of the Year in 2012 as an eighth grader … tallied 28 points (12 G, 4 A) in 2012 and earned CNYCL Class AA Second Team All-League accolades … member of National Honor Society … class vice president (2014-17) … daughter of Daniel and Laurie Mitchell … has one sister and one brother … birthday is September 28.
