BECKLEY, W.Va. – Senior forward Nathan Adrian
scored 26 points to lead West Virginia to a 131-56 victory over WVU Tech in exhibition action at the King Coal Beckley Automall Arena in front of a sold out crowd of 3,205 fans in Beckley, West Virginia.
Adrian scored his game-high total on 10-of-12 shooting from the field in 15 minutes of action. He shot 3-of-5 from 3-point range and had five rebounds, five assists and four steals.
West Virginia jumped out to a 19-0 lead in the first half at the first media timeout with 15:50 remaining. The Mountaineers led 62-23 at halftime.
The Mountaineers opened the second half on a 29-4 run to take a 91-27 lead with 15:17 to go in the game. West Virginia’s biggest lead was 78 points with 1:41 remaining in the game.
Freshman Lamont West
joined Adrian in double figures with 17 points. Sophomore Esa Ahmad
posted 14 points, while junior Jevon Carter
added 11 points for WVU. Freshman Sagaba Konate
nearly had a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds. All 14 Mountaineers who played tonight scored for WVU.
West Virginia forced 33 turnovers on 21 steals leading to 51 points off turnovers. WVU outrebounded WVU Tech, 49-26. For the game, West Virginia shot 57.6 percent from the field while getting 69 points from its bench.
