Fourth Straight Year WVU Finishes in USA Today Poll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia ended the season ranked 13thin the final USA Today Coaches' Poll, released earlier today.
It's the fourth straight year the Mountaineers have ended the season ranked in this poll and the sixth since 2008 under veteran coach Bob Huggins.
It's just the ninth time since USA Today took over the coaches poll from United Press International in 1993 that WVU has finished the year ranked in that poll.
Gale Catlett's 1998 team was ranked No. 18 that season and John Beilein had a pair of teams finish the season nationally ranked in 2005 (No. 12) and 2006 (No. 15).
Huggins' best finish in this poll came in 2010 when West Virginia was No. 3.
His 2008, 2015, 2016 and 2017 teams finished 17th, 18th, 14th and 11th respectively.
It's the 19thtime since 1952 West Virginia has ended the season ranked in the coaches' poll; the Mountaineers were also 15thin the final associated press poll revealed before the start of the NCAA Tournament.
West Virginia (26-11) has finished nationally ranked four straight years in the AP poll as well, the first time that's happened since 1959-62.
Huggins has now matched Fred Schaus for the most season-ending finishes in the national rankings in school history with six.
Gale Catlett coached three teams that finished nationally ranked in the polls in 1982, 1989 and 1998 and George King did as well in 1961, 1962 and 1963.
The Mountaineers joined three other Big 12 teams in this year's last USA Today poll: third-ranked Kansas, sixth-ranked Texas Tech and 19th-ranked Kansas State.
