MORGANTOWN, W.Va.  – West Virginia University women's basketball coach Mike Carey announced the addition of Kiana "Lucky" Rudd to the team roster on Wednesday.
 
Rudd, a 5-9 guard, joins the Mountaineers after spending the 2016-17 season and the fall of 2017 at N.C. State. She will be eligible for competition the second semester of the 2018-19 season with two years of eligibility remaining.
 
"We're excited to have Lucky here at West Virginia," coach Mike Carey said. "I was able to see her throughout her high school career and AAU career. We feel very fortunate that she chose to transfer to WVU. She brings in another player that has great knowledge of the game of basketball but can also shoot the basketball. We're excited to have her and her family here."
 
A native of Kernersville, North Carolina, Rudd appeared in 35 games for the Wolfpack with nine starts. She averaged 6.5 points per game with 22 assists as a sophomore in 2017-18, averaging 23.5 minutes with nine starts in 15 games. Rudd also saw action in 20 games as a freshman in 2016-17.
 
Rudd was a four-star recruit out of Forest Trail Academy and was rated the No. 78 overall prospect and No. 19 guard in the class of 2016. She was a 2016 All-USA North Carolina Girls Basketball First Team who averaged 11.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game as a senior to help lead Forest Trail to the NISAA championship game. In addition, she was a 2016 McDonald's All-American Honorable Mention. Prior to that, Rudd led the New Hope Phoenix to the 2015 National Independent School Athletic Association national championship, earning Tournament MVP honors
 
Rudd is the daughter of Janese and  Delaney Rudd, who played collegiately for Wake Forest and professionally for the Utah Jazz and Portland Trail Blazers.
