
Drazba Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (September 5, 2017) - Following her win at the Lehigh Invitational last Friday, West Virginia cross country redshirt senior Maggie Drazba has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.

Drazba was the first to cross the finish line in the women's 6k on the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, pacing the Mountaineers to a season-opening, first-place finish at the meet.
The St. Mary's, West Virginia, native earned a time of 20:58.55 at Lehigh, marking the first time she reached the top of the podium in her collegiate cross country career.
This Week in Women's Soccer: No. 6 WVU closes its three-week homestand with a pair of matches at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium … the Mountaineers face No. 13 Duke on Friday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m., and Richmond on Sunday, Sept. 10, at 1 p.m. … Friday is WVU Faculty/Staff night, and free admission will be given to any WVU faculty and staff member who shows their WVU employee ID … Youth Soccer Day follows on Sunday, and all fans who wear a youth soccer jersey will earn free admittance into the match … additionally, a free postgame clinic will follow the match.
Last Week in Women's Soccer: The Mountaineers (4-1) went 2-0 at DDSS over the weekend, defeating No. 1 Penn State, 2-1, on Sept. 2, and Wright State, 2-0, on Sept. 4 … forwards Sh'Nia Gordon and Lauren Segalla tallied first-half scores against PSU, with Segalla bagging the game-winner in the 37th minute … the WVU defense held PSU to 12 shots, with only three landing on-frame … on Monday, senior forward Michaela Abam tallied the game-winner against the Raiders just 2:22 into the match, converting her first penalty kick of the season … senior defender Amandine Pierre-Louis added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute … WVU denied WSU a shot and a corner kick.

Monmouth was compact, they defended, put numbers behind the ball and we made it very difficult to break down. We had chances, but were just wasteful with them today. That said, it's another clean sheet for our team. Though we weren't really troubled very much in this game, it's still important that we find clean sheets. We are disappointed not to find the goal, but there are going to be games like that, where teams are prepared to defend against you. That's what happened today."
This Week in Volleyball: West Virginia heads to Dayton, Ohio, on Friday for a trio of matches as part of the Holiday Inn Classic hosted by Wright State … WVU will face Tennessee Tech (11 a.m.) and Harvard (6 p.m.) on Friday before taking on host Wright State (3 p.m.) on Saturday.
