
Slinde Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (September 11, 2017) - Following a week in which she helped WVU to a 3-0 record at the Holiday Inn Invitational at Wright State, West Virginia volleyball sophomore Erin Slinde has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.

On Saturday, Slinde finished with a career-high 56 assists in the team's 3-1 win over Wright State. The assist mark topped the Big 12 last week. She also led the Big 12 with 12.89 assists-per-set last week.
Slinde also had a season-high four aces in Friday's sweep of Harvard, hitting .800 with 34 assists. She dished out 26 assists in the 3-0 win over Tennessee Tech to open the weekend.
The Rosemount, Minnesota, native finished the weekend ranking fourth in the Big 12 with .56 service aces per set, with five in WVU's three matches. The setter also hit .500, added four blocks and averaged 1.22 kills per set.
This Week in Women's Soccer: No. 3 WVU takes to the road for the first time since Aug. 18 with a pair of matches in Princeton, New Jersey, next weekend … the squad kicks against the Tigers on Friday, Sept. 15, at 4 p.m., and against La Salle on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 1 p.m. … Friday's match will be broadcast on ESPNU.
Last Week in Women's Soccer: The Mountaineers (5-2) split their weekend at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium, falling 4-0 to No. 6 Duke on Sept. 8 before bouncing back with a 3-0 win against Richmond on Sept. 10 … the Blue Devils put two away in both halves against WVU, including the game-winner in the 29th minute … WVU outshot Duke 14-11 and placed five on-frame … sophomore Rylee Foster made four saves in the loss … on Sunday, junior forward Grace Cutler tallied the game-winner just 1:42 into the match for the ninth-fasted goal in program history … senior forward Heather Kaleiohi added an insurance goal in the 57th minute, and junior forward Sh'Nia Gordon tallied her own goal in the 70th minute … Gordon assisted on Kaleiohi's goal for game-best three points … Foster made one save for the team's fourth clean sheet of the year … WVU finished with a 34-3 shot edge and placed 17 on-goal, the fifth-most in program history … WVU also earned a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

Last Week in Men's Soccer: For the second consecutive match, West Virginia played to a 0-0 draw, tying UCF on Saturday night at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium … WVU remained unbeaten on the season with its fourth of the year … the Mountaineers had 16 shots, three on goal, while the Knights had nine shots, three on net … Junior keeper Stephen Banick recorded three saves … nine of the Mountaineers' 16 shots came in the second period, and WVU out-shot UCF 5-2 in overtime … the Knights held a 4-2 edge in shots in the first 45 minutes.

Coach Marlon LeBlanc following Saturday Night's draw: "I want to make sure I stay positive, because we did get another shutout, we still haven't given up a goal in the run of play, our defending is excellent. We played well enough to win again tonight. Central Florida is a very good team and a tough team to break down, but we did break them down, we got behind them we had shots, we had opportunities. We just weren't clinical. We had the PK, a chance to win the game, and we missed a penalty. We had a chance to win it at the end there as well. But from a defensive standpoint, yeah, we're pretty good, but we have to take our chances better. To many good, quality opportunities built for us to get nothing out of it."
This Week in Volleyball: West Virginia hits the road twice this week … the Mountaineers travel to Huntington, West Virginia, on Tuesday for a tilt with in-state foe Marshall … first serve is set for 6 p.m. at the Cam Henderson Center … WVU heads to its final tournament this weekend when the team travels to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in New York for the Black Knights Invitational on Friday and Saturday … the Mountaineers take on Akron at 11 a.m. Friday before facing host Army West Point at 7 p.m. that evening … the team concludes the event on Saturday with a 2:30 p.m. match against Providence.

Last Week in WVU Cross Country: West Virginia made a familiar stop to Penn State's Blue-White Golf Course in University Park, Pennsylvania, last Friday for the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational. … WVU finished sixth at the meet. … redshirt senior Amy Cashin led the Mountaineers with a 12th-place finish, running the 6k course in 21:49. … WVU featured three runners in the top 30 of the event. … redshirt sophomore Olivia Hill placed 24th in a time of 22:17, while redshirt freshman Sarah Wills claimed 26th in a time of 22:22. … redshirt freshman Antigone Archer finished 38th overall after posting a time of 22:48. … redshirt sophomore Andrea Pettit (27:41) finished 85th.
