MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After a stellar showing in the top-ranked Mountaineers' season-opening win at No. 5 Georgetown, sophomore goalkeeper Rylee Foster has been named the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
A native of Cambridge, Ontario, Foster's award is her second career Big 12 weekly honor and her first career defensive accolade. She was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week on Oct. 10, 2016.
Foster's strong showing in the box helped push the West Virginia University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over the Hoyas at Shaw Field on Aug. 18. An All-Big 12 Second Team and Freshman Team honoree one year ago, she stopped seven shots, the second-best single-game outing in her young career, and defended nine corner kicks. The clean sheet was Foster's ninth in a Mountaineer uniform.
Additionally, Foster also was named to TopDrawerSoccer.com's Team of the Week.
The Mountaineers (1-0) open their 2017 home season against No. 11 Virginia on Thursday, Aug. 24, at 7 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. It's Dollar Day, and all tickets, popcorn, small sodas, nachos, mini pepperoni rolls and candy bars will be available for $1 each. Additionally, it's Poster Night, and all fans in attendance will receive a free Mountaineer schedule poster.
