Box Score MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - This one was over shortly after official Doug Sirmons lined up the two teams for the center jump.
Â
Twenty-fourth-ranked West Virginia hit Morgan State with a full-court blitz that had the Bears running for cover and the home crowd of 11,698 completely satisfied with the Mountaineers' 111-48 victory tonight at the WVU Coliseum.
Â
It was just the fifth time in the 47-year history of the WVU Coliseum West Virginia has had a crowd exceeding 10,000 in November, with four of the five happening under coach
Bob Huggins' watch. It was also the most ever for a November game, exceeding the 11,044 that came out to watch West Virginia play LSU on Nov. 26, 2005.
Â
"A shout out to all of our folks; we had over 10,000 people here tonight," West Virginia coach
Bob Huggins said. "Thanks to all the Mountaineer fans."
Â
Tonight, they witnessed an entertaining game that features accurate shooting, plenty of dunks, steals and even some crisp passing.
Â
West Virginia (2-1) got a career-high 32 points from
Daxter Miles Jr., three nights after scoring 20 in the Mountaineers' 98-64 win over American. He made 12-of-15 from the floor, and all nine of his two-point field goal attempts, and hit 5-of-8 from the free throw line in just 22 minutes of action.
Â
Senior guard
Jevon Carter contributed 16 points, sophomore
James Bolden came off the bench to score 13 and freshman
Teddy Allen added 10.
Â
"I thought we played hard. We played much harder than what we played, certainly in Germany and in the first home game here," Huggins said.
Â
All 11 players who got into the game scored for the Mountaineers, which shot 58.4 percent from the floor. At one point late in the first half, West Virginia led the Morgan State 50-8 and had a 39-point lead at halftime.
Â
"All we talked about at halftime was we have to use this to get better," Huggins said. "We're going to win the game, obviously, and they were playing some pretty good 2-3 matchup and it gave us an opportunity to work on our zone offense and try some new things out and put some people in different positions.
Â
"It helped us."
Â
The Bears (2-2), wearing bright orange jerseys with checkered trim that resembled something similar to old-school Syracuse or Cleveland Cavaliers uniforms, got 10 points each from LaPri McCray-Pace and Martez Cameron.
Â
Morgan State committed 27 turnovers and shot 32.1 percent for the game.
Â
West Virginia's 63-point win was the fifth-highest margin of victory in school history and the biggest win since the Mountaineers defeated Maryland Eastern Shore by 66 points on Nov. 27, 2007.
Â
"We shot the ball well and we did a better job in transition," Huggins said.
Â
West Virginia has another quick turnaround, meeting Long Beach State on Monday night at the Coliseum before taking off for Orlando, Florida, for three games in the AdvoCare Invitational at ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex over Thanksgiving break.
Â
WVU will play Marist and either Nebraska or Central Florida on Thursday-Friday, with a third game down there on Sunday. ESPNNEWS will carry Thursday night's game against Marist, with the remaining two games on either ESPN2 or ESPNU.
